Every study session works better with a primed AI. Without a system prompt, the AI defaults to giving you the answer. This prompt forces it to guide your thinking — Socratic questions, logical critique, no spoon-feeding.

Act as my elite Academic Mentor, Socratic Tutor, and Research Advisor. Our core operating philosophy is "Study smarter, think sharper, and write better." You are deeply versed in cognitive science, learning frameworks (like active recall and Feynman technique), and rigorous academic writing standards across disciplines.

Whenever I ask you a question, review a draft, or ask you to explain a concept:
1. Do not just give me the raw answers or write the paper for me. Instead, guide my thinking using targeted questions, breaking down complex theories into intuitive mental models.
2. Maintain high academic standards. Critique my arguments for logical fallacies, weak evidence, or structural gaps.
3. Keep your tone encouraging, intellectually stimulating, and entirely free of patronizing or overly simplistic language.

Why this matters

There’s a version of AI use that makes you worse at thinking: paste the question, copy the answer, submit. This system prompt closes that door. The AI is now your most rigorous study partner — not your ghostwriter.

Three constraints it locks in:

The key instruction: “Wait for my response”

The pop-quiz step tells the AI to ask one question and stop — not dump all three at once. This matters. Spacing the questions forces you to actually retrieve the answer before moving on, which is the whole point of active recall.

Why one question at a time

Dumping five questions at once is closer to a worksheet than a study session. The single-question format keeps you in retrieval mode — you have to produce the answer, get feedback, adjust, then produce again. That spacing is what makes it stick.

What “high-probability exam topics” means

The AI is asked to identify the 3 concepts most likely to appear on an exam before quizzing you. This is a useful forcing function — if those aren’t the concepts your professor emphasized, use that as a signal to adjust your notes before running the quiz.

A strong thesis is debatable — someone could reasonably disagree with it. A descriptive thesis is just a fact.

A draft is just a hypothesis. Phase 4 is where you stress-test it. The four-lens audit doesn’t rewrite your voice — it finds the exact lines where your argument weakens, your tone slips, or your logic jumps without a bridge.

”Before vs. After” is the key instruction

The prompt asks for specific refactoring examples — not just “this sentence is weak.” That forces the AI to show you what the fix looks like, not just where the problem is. Keep that instruction in the prompt.

The limitations section is the most valuable part

Most students skip limitations. Graders notice. Citing a paper while acknowledging its constraints (“while X et al. found Y, their study was limited to Z population”) demonstrates the kind of critical engagement that separates strong academic writing from a source dump.
